I'm trying to install Copilot 6 for a mate who got the software with his T Mobile MDA (Imate Jam).

When I try to install the app from the SD Card or from the CD via activesync I get the following error message...

"The file "\storagecard\2577\tts.cab is not a valid windows ce setup file"

Any idea what the problem might be, or an alternative installation option?

Thanks

Pardon me for guessing here.

TTS.cab is the Text-To-Speech installation. The error msg indicates it is not meant for PPC, therefore it is probably meant for desktop installation.

More guessing: since V6 allows some sort of easy switching between the different voices (male, female, US, UK, etc), maybe this part of the software is only meant for desktop installation.

You could try deleting the file from PPC and seeing if the TTS install works on desktop. Maybe you switch voices via ActiveSync from desktop.

Sorry if I totally miss the mark on this one. You may have found a bug, I hope not.

If the install is the same as CP5, you have to do the install from the CD for either the desktop or the PPC. The switching I believe is done through a toggle in the options but not 100% sure.

Thanks all for your help, but I've now found out what the issue is..

The software supplied is for a Smartphone, but the handset I'm trying to install it on is a Windows Mobile 2003 device, hence wrong software for the device!!!

Great service from T Mobile, putting the wrong software in the same parcel as the phone, you'd have thought someone would have twigged!...

It sounds like T-Mobile have given you the wrong version. MDA / Jam should run Pocket PC. Check the DVD case, and the CD's/SD card, it sounds like you have the SmartPhone version which won't work on Pocket PC.

Ehh Dave, if you still follow this thread, question, is th XDA III/Blue Angel/XDAIIs(in UK) a "PDA"
I bought one used as a "smartphone" version (well XDAIII is a phone, and its pretty smart compared to a nokia 5110)
I then decided on CP5 smartphone, since it goes cross borders flawlessly(Im told)
But I have same install problem as original poster:
"The file "\storagecard\2577\tts.cab is not a valid windows ce setup file"

Do I have the same the same problem of "version" ??

Do I ditch the XDAIII and find a "real" smartphone with much less functionality or ditch the "smartphone" ed. of CP5 and get the pocket PC version ?
Rgds
(yes, I am new to this)

Laughing Out Loud Laughing

That's almost exactly why I switched!

The START of a very long drawn out "comedy of errors" (on T-mobile's part) began by them selling me the CoPilot package on normal SD card, which of course won't FIT into the MINI SD slot of their "MDA Vario" (so much for a "bundled package") Wink

Having said that, I also "fell for" a bargain (returned item) from Global Positioning Systems and despite double-checking it was the correct thing, failed to spot that it was the Smartphone edition! D'OH! (looks like I suck too?) Embarassed
