A good compromise would just be to hit the off button to turn off the screen and leave the unit in place? At least then it isn't illuminating itself to the world and it only takes a second to switch it back on again.

I have a Brodit mount hard wired into my Focus next to the right hand door pillar,a small teddy was purchased Embarassed after a little surgery to his derriere 8O it slips over the top of the mount and totally disguises it.(So far)
The PDA always come's with me (2210).

The GPS receiver sits on a piece of that non-skid matting therefore no telltale piece of metal on the dash either when parked up.
