I'm new to GPS systems so these might seem obvious but I'm loking at the Navman 520 and would like to know the following if I put the unit in the car and just drive without setting a route will it track my journey and display camera locations ?

I have several regular runs which I know but as these are in counties that I don't live in am not up to date on camera locations. I also get called to do one of visits in out the way areas hence the satnav, I'd rather one box for all than a satnav & GPS camera unit.

Thanks

I am not sure about the unit tracking your rout, but it will certainly display your route and keep pace with your speed on it's maps without setting a prescribed route.

As you drive your poistion will be updated and will display any active POI, whether speed camera restaurant, petrol staion as you approach them.

Naturally, you can set an audible and visual alert to warn you when you are in close proximity (distance is also adjustable).

As stated the above function is available regardless of the whether you have set a destination to navigate to.

I dont' know about the camera stuff, the ICN 510 did show this stuff and yes you can drive around without setting a route and it will show where you are fine.

I now have the 520 after having the 510 for almost a year and getting fed up with not getting a signal on the 510 when i switched it off for say 10 mins when it had previously been working fine for an hour 's or so drive. Everyone of this forum kept saying they had no problem getting a signal anytime, so I decided to replace mine and as I say I now own the 520.
.........

I've had the 520 for a week now and will put it to more of a test as the weeks go on if anyone has any questions?

Middleman, you may be able to help me then having owned both the 510 and 520. i'm looking to get the software upgrade to v3.5...

any significant differences between the two???

Did people use the speed camera locations that can be downloaded from this site or from elsewhere?? and Where did you get the sounds from??

Also can all this fit on the standard SD/MMC card you get with the unit OR do you need to by a bigger one to enable you to have cameras etc..?

Cheers
Darren

is on this? and what features it gives you for detecting speed cameras?

Thank you

Chris

Hi Chris
GPS units such as the Navman 510/520 do not detect speed cameras. Known sites of cameras (POIs) are uploaded to the device to enable you to be warned that you are approaching such a site - the distance in advance of the camera can be chosen and loaded onto the device. You probable know this already but just in case............. Wink

It depends on whether you've selected metric or imperial units in Preferences.

I bought one of these - 129 screen no good , if u heavy handed
there is now a thumb print in the middle
also the maps are out of date they refer to 2004
having asked the navman web site about updates
only to be told that they would cost me 99
80% of the original cost -- when I complained they said
it's 99 - & no other comments !!

poor show -- when u appear to be driving in a field ?
when u actually on a " listed road "

and it appears to have no facilities for say a road " is closed "
it just tries to keep sending u back to it !!!

no good if u want a new route !! Evil or Very Mad Sad

You can put in 'Avoid areas' to show closed roads.
