There's two ways to look at this. Do you really want street navigation sat nav on your Pocket PC which will be able to route you easily from A to B with Speed Camera Support, or do you just want Speed Camera Support ?

If the latter, then there are several products available like TrafCam and Travel-i.

If you're looking for both, again TrafCam can be added to TomTom Navigator 2, or you can use our own free database which is updated on a monthly basis. Check out our Speed Camera Page for more info.

With Trafcam is there a hardware device to detect mobile cameras? or is it just software with known cameras?

It's software. If you're looking for a hardware device, check out our Speed Camera Detector Reviews

Im just worried about mobile ones - Is it worth the extra cash over a software device?

Then you'll have problems. If you're talking about Mobile GATSO's then a Radar Detector like the Bell Euro 550 will detect for GATSO's. It won't detect for the new Truvello front facing digital GATSO's though, nor will it detect for the SPECS cameras that monitor your average speed through road works like on the M6, or M1.

You can get a GPS Detector like the Road Angel, but this doesn't have any detection capability, and relies purely on it's database, it will pick up GATSO's, Mobile GATSO's and SPECS cameras but you have to rely on the database. The same goes with software versions like our speed camera (that's basically what the Road Angels are, just a GPS Receiver and operating system that can check a database and report back if you're approaching a camera).

You're looking at around £400 for a hardware GPS device that will detect for cameras, also another £300 for a Bell Euro 550 Radar Detector. It doesn't come cheap.

The Road Angel will detect for laser guns, but in most cases once a laser has been pointed at you, you're done. There was a discussion in another thread over the past few days regarding laser guns the Police use, and there's no guarantee it will save your license.

The other thing you can't detect for is these mobile vans (white vans with the top windows opened with cameras pointing out). It won't detect anything on any of these products, so you're left high and dry.

The only sensible way is to cut your speed in road works.
