I was wondering if there were various different POI's that I could download and I see that there is quite a varied selection.
I have just tried downloading National Trust sites.
I'm doing something wrong when I'm trying to turn data into notepad form.
Can anyone give me a blow by blow idiots guide on what I should do?

And to all have you who have added POI's I congratulate you all!

Regards

Steve J

What are you using to convert to a text file?

I personally use Dumpov2 as you can just drag the .ov2 file to it to create an .asc file.

You can download it from http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/oldboy/TomTomTools/ov2tools.zip

An .asc file is an ASCII file, also known as a text file.

If you have a file that has been generated from an .ov2 file some programs produce an .asc file, and some a .csv file. Essentially they are both the similar.

They are both text files, but the .csv file is a specially laid out text file. It uses Comma Seperated Values, (.csv).

In a text file generated by from a .ov2 file, the data comes out like this:

-1.23456 , 50.54321 , "Name of POI"

This layout of information is what is used by all programs that convert 'text' files to .ov2 files.

Thanks Richard.

Think I'm begginning to put this together now. So when I gownload Dump file, do I save it, then download a POi, for instance National Trust Sites.
Save that file, thrn drag & drop into Dump file, then extract file to turn into text file. Save that folder. Then contect Navman & download file onto Navman?

Thanks again.

Firstly unzip the ov2tools.zip file into a convenient folder. There will be 3 files Makeov2.exe, Dumpov2.exe and makeov2.txt.

When you have downloaded and unzipped the NT sites file into the ov2tools folder, you drag the NT Sites.ov2 file to the Dumpov2.exe file. This will produce a NT Sites.asc file. This is your text file.

The above is if you have Windows.

When you connect your Navman you will have a text file and a bmp for transferring the POI.
