Posted earlier question ref haicom 202e, I am using xp operating system. After installing gps using supplied software, The same supplied software by haicom gives you the facility to change comm ports. The software supplied by haicom is called SETCOM.It gives you the chance to highlight the present port and highlight which port you want to use.BUT when I do this and press enter, I get a message saying 'open registry failed'.

Any help would really be appreciated.Have tried reloading evrything to no avail.

Are you logged on as Administrator? A restricted user account won't be allowed to modify certain areas of the registry.

You need to be an Administrator to change anything relating to devices. You usually have to reboot to bring changes into effect, as well.

I can only re-iterate my previous advice. My copy of the Haicom HI-202E drivers doesn't include this utility and I don't know where it came from, or whether it's suitable for Windows XP.

I gave you some advice previously on changing COM port numbers manually. Admittedly I only have first hand experience of Windows 2000 Professional. I should get my new workstation running Windows XP Professional in about ten days' time - so I'll be able to compare then. However, I'd be surprised if things were very different in Windows XP.

Why is the precise COM port number relevant anyway? Some software only allows selection of COM1 to COM4 (and some only allows use of COM1 and COM2) - but most software asks Windows to enumerate the available ports on the machine and allows you to select any COM port.

If you describe your current problem, together with anything you can do to expand on the symptoms and why you feel the COM port number is relevant, hopefully we can advise you further.
