But like all devices I'm sure there will have been prototypes or development machines for companies to uprate their respective apps accordingly.

It would be nice if someday we didn't have to wait weeks/months for the software developers to catch up with the current hardware. Seems to be different with PC's especially games where the hardware is usually chasing the software. Sad

But the issue with phones is their short lifespan, they are fashion items now and most are well past their shelf life within months of release.

Until a handset is considered to be popular enough to justify development it is'nt surprising that developers are wary of investing time and money in developing for it.

The C550 is a mongrel of WM2005 hardware with a fudged WM2003 OS. It would have made a lot more sense to wait until WM2005 was available before releasing it.

You're not wrong there. HTC seem to be releasing devices every other month. Would be nice if they were more revolutionary rather than evolutionary.

Sadly it seems that the C550 was rushed out at the behest of the service providers who needed a new model to tempt buyers until WM2005 becomes available.

Interesting but what's the feeling out there? Is Tomtom the best or does wayfarer, route 66, navicore do it better? Is there any direct comparisons between the four (as I have searched the forum but can't find it!)?

My heartfelt apologies for the grammatical error with the ! & ? 8O

TomTom Mobile is the best (IMHO) closely followed by Navicore (Sumbian Only). Navicore has a superb interface but lacks UK 7 Digit PostCodes.

Does TomTom work thru the hands free connection, ie will it use my car radio speakers for spoken instructions or the p910 speaker?

I tried wayfinder on a p800 and it was too quiet at motorway speeds.

regards,

greg

I've got TT mobile 5 on my Nokia 7610 but am thinking of buying a p910i, will the TT transfer to the p910i or is there a download/upgrade?

You'll need a new copy I'm afraid, there is no path for replacing one platform version with another. I appreciate the 7610 is Symbian as is the 910i but they are sufficiently different to warrant a different package.

FWIW I have just received a 910i in order to test the 910 version of TomTom and am less than impressed, it's smaller than my XDAII but much less logical. Aside from the jog dial which I like it has few redeeming features and I'm sticking to my trusty XDA (until the HTC Universal arrives next month!).
