i have noticed a very strange thing yet again with the 3400 SP1a

the gps signal always used to average about 9 sats but now i'm only getting 5 sats on exactly the same roads in the same weather conditions and for some reason it suddenly drops to 2 2d sats and the blue triangle turn into that very popular red one for about 30 seconds and then hey presto! i get 5 sats again i'll be very interested and appreciative if someone could explain that one to me...

i'll give them another month then i'll have to take my business elsewhere call me inpatient but the road in the UK are confusing enough without the added confusion of a so called navigator!

I have had this problem since I upgraded to SP1a and had threatened to roll back to the original SP1, as this worked fine for me, but I just haven't had the time. I have also noticed that since SP1a I spend quite some time - off the map, "go to nearest road" - in areas that used to be OK. Now this all gets me wondering - SP1a was issued at about the time we and our US friends started this Iraq episode. Is it possible that the sensitivity of the GPS system was turned down a touch (as it used to be) and the issues we are seeing are somewhat GPS based rather than Navman. Is anything similar happening on other systems?

No, the GPS network has been unaffected. If it was affected not only would it cause wide spread panic from the GPS market but everyone would notice this.

I think we've all experienced sudden complete loss of signal even though the conditions are perfect i.e almost 180 degree clear view of the sky. Personally i think it's mainly the receiver but unfortunately the software won't work with another receiver to try.
