I have the same problem often.
Have had GPS changed (Holux Gr230) but still have problem.
Sometimes all is ok other times not, it does not seem to depend on number of satelites locked. no POI's loaded, I soft reset before running, makes no difference.

If you have an option for NMEA 0183v2 4800 in your GPS properties area, use that and it should fix your problem.
I had the same thing when I first set up - you should try it on 3D view going round corners is fun! Very off putting when you are on a straight on the road but on a corner on TT3!

What size has your memory card got? I use 256mb and have no problems. The maps should be installed on the card and not in the PDA mem itself. I have heard that some types of card do cause problems. Also in the GPS settings where you changed it to NMEA I have set mine at Serial Cable on SP2: which is just below the original setting.
As to whether that will change anything is a guess but worth a try! Other than that, just check the usual, make sure your PDA processor is running full chat and that you are not running any other programs other than Checkpoint (as well as TT of course!)
I assume that you are running it off the car battery for full power but that does not really matter as mine runs fine off the internal battery.
Give all this a go and see if it works.
If no joy, come back to me but I suspect in that case you will need someone brighter than myself!
