I have just subscribed.
Are your speed camera downloads compatible with my Garmin 2610?
How do I put them onto my Mapsource System on my computer?
Thank you

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum.

The 2610 cannot use the POIs directly as it is an older model. You have to use a Map Overlay with that GPS.

Select 'Garmin' in the first dropdown box on the Download screen, then choose 'Garmin GPSR Map Overlay' from the second dropdown. That will download a single .msi file which you need to double-click, then follow the instructions. Post back here if you have any difficulties.

Thank you for your advice.
I have downloaded this Garmin overlay but cannot load it into my Mapsource programme? It is Winzip and I tried opening it.
It tells me it is not in a correct format for Mapsource - I am using Mapsource 8.
Any ideas how I can add the Downloay to Mapsource?
Many thanks,
Mike Davies

If you double-click the .zip file that should open it up and you should then see a .msi file.

Once you have done that just double-click on the .msi file. That should start the installation process. Mapsource doesn't come into the equation until after this install phase.

Are you using Windows XP? Or something else...

I am using Windows 2000 Professional.
When I open the .msi file from Winzip a message comes up saying my system may not be compatible with it and when I continue a load of odd symbols are shown ??

Any ideas?
Thank you

Ah, it sounds as if you don't have "Windows Installer" installed.

The map overlay uses a feature called "Windows Installer" (sometimes called Microsoft Installer or MSI) to install itself. This is built into Windows XP. Earlier systems which don't have MSI can download it from Microsoft (its 1.6Mb).
Once MSI is installed on your system, it stays there and you won't get a complaint the next time you install the map overlay. It also enables you to uninstall the map if you wish by running the MSI file again, or from Control Panel/Add Remove Programs.

You can download the installer using these links...

Windows Installer for Win95, Win98, ME

Windows Installer for NT, Win2000
