Hi philmc,
to the forum!
Getting maps of the Channel Islands on TomTom is my personal crusade!
Unfortunately, TomTom use Tele Atlas map data, which doesn’t yet cover the Channel Islands. I started to ask Tele Atlas to map the Channel Islands several years ago. Have a look at this old thread.
The annoying thing is that the major competitor to Tele Atlas in Europe, i.e. Navteq, mapped the Channel Islands years ago. So you need to use Navteq maps.
1. Buy a PDA and get CoPilot. Here’s a review I co-wrote about using CoPilot in Jersey.
2. Buy TomTom Rider which comes with Navteq maps instead of Tele Atlas.
3. Wait until the TomTom ONE NE (V2) Europe is released. It also uses Navteq maps instead of Tele Atlas. These new ONEs should appear in the shops in the next few days.

Thanks for that Robert, I bought T/T700 for a trip to Italy earlier this year and was well pleased with it. I have used it a few times on long weekends to France and I enjoy using it, as I live in Jersey I do not really ned to use it here but it would be fun to check out how it worked with al our small lanes etc, I just dont understand why T/T do not have the maps on all there systems for Channel Islands as they sell them here!! maybe they will add them in the future. Gald you had an enjoyable holiday over here kind regards, PhilMc. :D

As tourists, it isn't essential to have SatNav either, although for its size, Jersey does have a lot of roads – some smaller than others. 8O

A very good question. It is to do with licensing of the map data, but hopefully TomTom will one day create a system where the user can decide which map data to use, if there is a choice of map data providers.
If you or your friends need to buy a TomTom unit then have a look on the find-tomtom-deals website. As residents of Jersey you may be able to claim the VAT back.
If you want Jersey map data, then have a look at the TomTom One Europe”, which is now available. The current best price is £269.99 from Comet online.

Bo Peep and I really do enjoy Jersey. We try to take a holiday there most years. Hopefully the next time we visit Jersey we'll have a TomTom unit that has Jersey maps!
