You can simply move the CheckPOInt folder from \Program Files to \Storage Card
Before you do this you will have to disable the "Automatically Start TomTom" setting in CheckPOInt. This doesn't work any more, probably because the path to the TomTom exe file is hardcoded in checkpoint.exe (would have been nice if that would be stored in the registry instead)
So - you can move both programs to storage card, but you have to use two more taps to get started
- start CheckPOInt
- start TomTom Navigator
You can still set the "Automatically stop CheckPOInt when TomTom Navigator is stopped" checkbox - that will continue to work
Note:CheckPOInt also installs two DLLs into \Windows (ttncom.dll and tgetfile.dll) - these should be moved into the Checkpoint program folder instead. _________________ Lutz

How did you manage to get checkpoit to load to the Storge card and does it work with Navigator following the Hack?
Still searching for a fix to this one. [/i] |
I completely hard reset my ipaq after trying all this reg edit and messing it all up.
Then I installed TomTom, but when activesync says install to default location, select no, and choose SD card.
Then I installed Checkpoint, and again, when activesync says install to default location, click no, and choose SD card.
Works fine on my 2210, all installed on SD card, and both Checkpoint and Postcode can launch Tomtom
You dont need to do the hack if you install tomtom to sd card in first place |

Mostly correct. But there are three files that get installed to \Windows anyhow, and you need to move them to storage card manually. Especially "TomTom GPS.exe" _________________ Lutz

I didn't have a reason to use my PDA for a while recently, consequently the battery went flat and I the PDA lost all its memory. I guess this mod would mean that extended periods of no power wouldn't be an issue?

That's right. I had the sad opportunity to test this recently, due to a sunken battery. What you will need to do after a hard reset without any PC around is to manually start the GPS Setup tool (TomTom GPS.exe)(to recreate the registry entries) and to repeat the hack for the voice files. You may also need to copy the ttgpseng.exe back into the \windows directory and the .axs file back to \my documents folder. (you did do a backup of these files, right?)
Another option would be to keep a read-only copy of the TTN and TTGPS CAB files on your storage card. So when you're out in the wild and have battery power back you can then re-run the setups. But this is not half as cool as the hack approach. _________________ Lutz

Also the other question I am wondering about is that I have CheckPoint 3.2 on there, will I just be able to sync as easy as before...
Thanx |

Hi Lutz,
Liked the review - am assuming tt access via the "today logo" will not be possible due to this pointing to one location?
Hope this make sense.

The "today screen logo" trick will continue to work as long as the file name "TomTom Navigator.exe" is not changed. _________________ Lutz

Copy checkpoint.exe to your storage card and then just create a shortcut into the windows start menu, this works ok,

Hi,
Sorry to jump in late, I am only just catching up with the article.
I had originally installed TTN3 to my SD card. I have moved the GPS.exe to my SD card and updated the registry as recommended
There are still two dlls in the windows folder: TomTomCodeInfo and TomTomMemInfo. Can these also be moved? |

I am not aware of these DLLs. They may not even be from TomTom Navigator. Try moving them away somewhere and see if it has any impact. _________________ Lutz

Hi all,
It seems that checkpoint use the following registry parameter to start tomtom (path to). So if you move tomtom change the following parameter into the registry :
HKLM\software\APPS\tomtom navigator\InstDir
My story :
I moved tomtom from program files to ipaq file store and CheckPOInt wasn't starting anymore Tomtom.
reinstalling several time checkPOInt didn't help me until I changed the path in the InstDir parameter.
hoping this helps the community.

Lutz
I use iPAQ5450 on TTN 2 with a BT GPS and hv just moved the TTN & checkpoint 2.02 with UKspeed camera database on the storage card, .... thanks to you and Dave for this.
I also use an old dump of UKpostcode tool from digitool ( which for some legal reasons hv been withdrawn now).....when i run this application it fails to navigate me ..and just takes me to MAP view .. or it wud kill the TTN application if i go from the MAP view to the Navigator ....before registry hack it was working fine but i had memory issues n thats the reaons i decided to move it on the storage card
Any help would be higly appriciated.
Cheers

Sorry I'm not familiar with the postcode app - not much use over here ;-)
Try asking Niels. _________________ Lutz
