|
|
First a BIG hello to everyone and i hope someone can help me.
I have paid just over £1000 for my new satnav unit to be fitted in my car with a dvd roof screen also fitted, the problem i am having is getting updates from Garmin for my new satnav.
The one i purchased was the dnx5240bt so i loged on to garmins website looking for new updates.
Fist i entered the seriel code only to be matched up with another model not the DNX5240BT and reading the small print on the website it says never upload the wrong software,
but the biggest problem i have is when trying to download GPS speed camera software it is trying to find and link up with my Garmin but the Garmin i have is fitted in my car ? AND I DONT HAVE A LAPTOP and i cant see a way round this,
i did download and run POI loader and tried putting gpi files on to disc but when asking for the folder to fetch the gpi FILES from it is saying cant find any so i put the GPI files straight on disc instead of using POI loader but when trying to load them to the unit in the car getting a message ERROR DISC
CAN ANYONE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION PLEASE i have tried contacting Garmin but failed via telephone and no emails back from them.
I AM THINKING I AM DOING SOMETHING WRONG CAN ANYONE HELP.
Thanks
Emma |

If the PGPSW database then use POILoader to create the POI.GPI on your PC. Then make a folder called garmin. Inside that folder create another folder called poi. Make sure both are lower case. Then put the POI.GPI file in the poi folder.
ie.
x:\garmin\poi\poi.gpi
Burn that to CD and insert into the device.
Some people find the case of the folders doesn't matter but others do. |

We have a full install guide here.
I'm not familiar with how Garmin update their cameras so can't advise if the procedure would be similar. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Huh? If you have the model that uses a memory card you use that in your laptop/computer via a card reader. If not then you need to make a CD with the data on it. _________________ Darren Griffin |

i have a DNX5240BT so no memory slot as said before for some reason when installing disc in satnav coming up with read error i know the disc player in the satnav is working ok as if i try a dvd it works only getting that message when trying to load poi files so i am guessing i am doing something wrong. |

Does the manual mention POI installation at all? You will have to ask Kenwood or perhaps Garmin. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The manual is as good as useless when it comes to the Navigation part of the device, the USB port on the unit is for plugging in a memory stick loaded up with media to watch/ listen to, it is not for connecting a laptop to it.
If you need a copy of the manual try downloading from Here - Mike |

Can i ask why when i go to Garmin website when clicking on updates poi speedcamera it is looking for a devive it can not find as there is no satnav connected to my computer and it doesnt give me the option to download
i am assuming the file i am trying to upload will only do this when it finds a match with a satnav system |

Given this is a query concerning Garmin's own speed camera service, why don't you ask Garmin direct? _________________ Darren Griffin |
