It is possible to make a WiFi GPS quite easily now, so this is an instant workaround. Using a WiFi module which has the complete server on board costs about £25, plus the GPS, and software which runs on the WiFi module itself. Module becomes a server / AP which the phone connects to, and bingo! - GPS data into the iPhone.

Easily done.

Ah, no offence then, but thats taken with a large bit of salt (i.e. a truckload). I dont generally take in anything by the makers themselves, be it apple, MS etc.

Im not sure how this tomtom phone will work. As someone pointed out, you would be buying tomtom first, and the phone second. I dont think the market is balenced like that.

A few are starting to take interest in the phone GPS side of things now. With midrange models coming out capable of satnav, its obviously going to be a very large part in the market.

Recently, a number of satnav makes have been working on mobile versions of there software. Noteably, route66, Garmin, and copilot. All have released polished versions.

Well consider this one, When HTC launched the P3300 Artemis it was pre-loaded with TomTom software so one would assume it would work with their devices, Oh no it didn't for quite some time, eventually my 720 could communicate with the phone but this took quite some time (and required quite a bit of messing about), there is a thread on the forum detailing members experiances with different modern phones and the TomTom platform, you would be better off using that to work out what works and what doesn't - Mike

And to compound the issue many network providers have the phone's firmware tweaked to support their services / products so the combinations to test are fairly huge. You can see why TomTom would seriously consider a specific phone/hardware platform (which will have it's firmware tweaked to work!)

It most probably is a separate part (it certainly looks that way), optional extra maybe if you want the roller ball (Lutz) - or have they gone one better and put the phone in the pod that attaches at the bottom and the rest is the PDA, this would make sense as you could sell two very similar devices - a PDA with full capabilities and a PDA style phone with the pod attached.
I don't think the video is the HTC Dream though it is just a demo of Android on an unknown device - Mike
