It would be helpful for posters asking questions and given a solution to come back and just let us know if the suggestion worked. So many threads just hang in the air - it only takes a minute and will help and possibly stop others asking the same question.

Yes it would be nice but I can understand someone, who has probably been pulling their hair out, is so pleased that they've got it going, they just don't think.
Or maybe the suggestion didn't work and they went out and got lost forever. :P _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Coming back to confirm a positive result shouldn't be a matter of thinking, but a matter of courtesy and politeness. Sadly this seems to be becoming less and less common in society.
A 'thank you' might also be in order - it's the little things like that...knowing you have helped someone...that makes you continue doing it. And you also know you've got the answer right for the next time.
If you don't know if your advice/comments worked, aren't you less likely to feel inclined to carry on trying to help? |

That's true.

Not really. Why should the next 'newbie' who needs help, and may well get back with a big thank-you, suffer because those before haven't bothered to?
I must be in a very good mood today. :P _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Hi Everyone,
A good idea in theory.
Can I please ask that if anyone does come back to post an update on thier original query/problem that they post it in the original thread rather than starting a new one.
There have been some incidences of users posting a one-off message to thank someone for something but not linking to the original thread. This makes it rather difficult to work out who is being thanked and for what.
Regards,
Bo Peep. _________________ TomTom 730

Just to practice what I preach, thanks for your supporting comments. As you say, it's just manners, something lacking nowadays! |

I don't know how practical it it to impliment but on the "Money saving expert" forum there is a "Thanks" button which does give Helpful posters a sort of ranking and helps keep the number of non informative posts down.
