The Brazilian Space Agency has signed an agreement with its Russian counterpart, Roscosmos which makes it the first country outside of Russia to hos a part of the GLONASS satellite navigation system.

The Brazilian component has been installed at the University of Brasilia and will be jointly operated by the two agencies.

The partnership with Russia will help train Brazilian professionals and improve the accuracy of GLONASS said Brazilian Space Agency president Jose Raimundo Coelho.

GLONASS (Globalnaya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema) is a satellite navigation system operated by the Russian government and has a constellation of 24 satellites providing global coverage.
