The plan to install average speed cameras between Kings Lynn and Hunstanton in Norfolk looks like it's been scrapped four months after they were supposed to be erected.

It emerged in a local meeting that apparently the dangers associated with the stretch on the A149 were certain junctions along the route and not speed.

However, this reportedly flies in the face of what Norfolk highway engineer Andrew Wadsworth said in March this year: "The A149 north of Lynn was identified as having a high rate of personal injury collisions. The predominant collision types are those which may be associated with excessive speed, such as tail end, overtake and head on collisions." In his defence, he did use the word "may".

A county council spokesman commented: "Councillors are keen for a range of safety schemes to be considered first so our network safety team are looking at the data to see if any particular sites would be eligible for inclusion in the local safety scheme programme next year."

So getting the inexperienced speeders to drive slower passing these junctions via safety cameras wasn't considered.

Cost of fitting the cameras v the hospital bills
