Twelve new average speed cameras are being installed on a major Black Country route.

The point-to-point devices will cover a five mile stretch of the A500 between the Hanchurch and Hanford areas (and then eventually up to Wolstanton) in Staffordshire.

A Highways England spokesman commented: "The safety of all road users is our priority and while the majority of motorists stick to the speed limit the introduction of safety cameras along this route will help reduce accidents. We thank motorists for their patience while the work to install the cameras takes place."

He added: "Any road closures needed to safely install the cameras will be overnight when we know the roads are quieter. Where possible, we will work on one carriageway at a time or with lane closures to minimise disruption while ensuring the safety of our workers."

Work is expected to last until December 20th.
