It has been revealed that one Cambridgeshire speed camera caught an average of four people a day last year.
1542 drivers were recorded speeding on Fletton Parkway, Peterborough in 2018.
Of that total, 729 drivers were asked to attend a speed awareness course, 303 received a court summons and 510 were given a fixed penalty notice. The minimum fine is £100.
The second busiest camera on Barnwell Road, Cambridge caught 926 and the third, on Bourges Boulevard, Peterborough, caught 819.
A police spokesperson said: "Speeding is one of the fatal four causes of collisions on our roads, together with driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone behind the wheel. We're committed to tackling speeding on all the county’s roads. Driving too fast puts motorists and other road users at risk. By driving to the conditions of the roads, including at appropriate speeds, you significantly reduce your chances of being involved in a collision."
He added: "We'll continue to do all we can to prevent speeding offences where possible and prosecute those who choose to speed."

Interestingly, Our database only shows a SPECS section for a short way eastbound at the western end and a few mobiles. That's also how it checked out to me during two trips up and back in the summer as well.

I travel that road regularly and have only ever seen the specs cameras and the odd van on the overpasses. Interesting comment from the Police though:

No mention of how committed they are against the other 3 because static cameras are of no use against the drink/ drug driver, wearing a seatbelt or mobile phone. Speeding is just easy pickings

I must be thick - how does not wearing a seatbelt cause collisions? It can cause you to fatalise in a collision, but not cause the collision itself.

It is still the same. The short specs section is at 60mph as you come off the A1 into Peterborough on a dual carriageway. I am not surprised that it catches a lot of people, if they are not paying proper attention to the signs they might reasonably expect that road to be 70mph. There is plenty to distract you from the speed limit signs, they are on a bend just after one junction at a point where two lanes merge into one and just before a point where traffic merges from the left. If you are not local and unsure of your route it might be easy to miss the signs.

Yes that's deffo an 'eyes needed in ass' junction when there is a bit of traffic around, especially if you have been into the services and catch the traffic direct off the A1.

Speeding does not cause collisions either.
Poor driving does.
