A German footballer has received a fine of £427,000 for speeding in his Aston Martin.

Marco Reus, who plays for Borussia Dortmund and for the German national team, has been caught by speed cameras at least five times and was also stopped by police several times between September 2011 and March 2014.

The last time he was stopped, in March on the way to a match in Dortmund, police officers realised that Reus not only didn't have a driving licence but he has never had one.

The 25-year-old was fined £427,000, which reflects the fact that he earns £150,000 a month.

Reus commented: "I decided back then to take that road but the reasons I did it are something I cannot really understand today. Today I know that I was too naive and that it was stupid. I have learned my lesson and this will not happen again."

Doesn't know why he did it, although being as thick as two short planks is as good a reason as any!
