A vandal has set alight to a fixed speed camera on the A90 north of Rathen in the north-east of Scotland - the device monitors a 60mph northbound stretch on the Fraserburgh to Peterhead road.

This is the second time that it's been set alight in three years.

A fire crew managed to put it out within 20 minutes and police said that there was "minimal damage" to the equipment.

Local safety group chairman councillor Brian Topping commented: "I think it is very, very disappointing to say the least. The cameras are there for a purpose. They are for everyone's safety."

He added: "It appears to me that someone has seen the flash go off and potentially set it alight. This cannot be tolerated."

The fire service said that they were called to the scene in the early hours of the morning where they found the camera and a tyre on fire.

I don't think the fire was 'potential', it looks pretty 'actual' to my inexperienced eyes.
