A driver has been imprisoned after being caught attempting to use a laser jammer to avoid speeding fines.
Michael Twizell, 58, from West Yorkshire had a speed camera jamming device fitted to his BMW 3 Series.
Twelve months ago, he passed a police speed camera van on the A658 near Harrogate and the operator spotted an error on his equipment. After investigation, the police found the illegal device fitted to the front of Twizell's car. He pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and has been jailed for three months and fined £1,500.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police, said: "To use a device which is capable of interfering with police speed measurement is clearly, as shown today, a very serious matter. North Yorkshire Police will continue to Investigate similar allegations when people use these devices to interfere with the normal course of justice."
He also issued a warning: "I advise anyone who may have a similar device fitted to their vehicle to think about the consequences of using such a device and strongly recommend that they remove it from their vehicle to avoid a future prosecution."
