SatNav Leads to Home Repossession

A satnav has been blamed for a US homeowner having her home repossessed. The First National Bank of Wellston mistakenly cleaned out the Ohio woman's house and changed the locks while she was on holiday. She had to get back in through a window.
An excuse given by the bank was that it was lead to the house by a satnav. The grass had not been cut around the three bedroom house so it appeared as if it were the target property. The correct property turned out to be the one opposite.
The homeowner, Katie Barnett, whose possessions were either sold or dumped, has billed the bank for $18,000, but they are insisting on her providing receipts for everything claimed.
The Huffington Post carried out a review of court records in 2012 which uncovered more than 50 lawsuits filed against foreclosures on the wrong properties. It seems that Ms Barnett may be in for a great deal more recompense than just the price of her possessions.
Was it the really the satnav's fault? Although the fashionable thing is to blame the satnav, weren't these sort of mistakes common using good old-fashioned maps?

I don't remember ever using a Sat Nav that pointed me to either side of the road, that's where observation & common sense are supposed to take over from a dumb machine!

Some of them do say "The destination is on your left" (or right).
However, this is nothing to do with a satnav, it's an idiot who didn't bother to check they were at the right address before carrying out something that (one assumes) involves a tonne of paperwork in order to be legal.
For the bank to blame the satnav is utter nonsense - they should at least admit to human error - or, for once be honest, and say 'yep, we messed up!'

My TomTom ALWAYS points to the left or right side of the street. I long ago learned not to believe it.

This has nothing to do with a Satnav error - it got them to the right place didn't it?
It's the dumb bank employee who couldn't read house numbers correctly.

If it's anything like the UK there probably wasn't any number on the house. Wandering up & down a road trying to work out house numbers is the bain of my life, I'd hate to be a postie

We live in a blame (not my fault) culture sadly.
I was listening to radio5 the other day where a lady was complaining that her daughter at uni had been taken advantage of by a payday loan company and she had had to bail her daughter out of debt to the tune of thousands of pounds.
And I'm thinking, hang on a minute, if the daughter is smart enough to get into uni surely she is smart enough to understand payday loans?
Then again perhaps the daughter is smart and taking advantage of her Mum who isn't!
Perhaps it's just me!!
