A satnav has taken centre stage in a police operation to arrest drug dealers involved in a £1 million drug plot after one of the criminals followed directions to the wrong location in Halifax.

The hapless driver tapped in Foster Road instead of Foster Street and ended up seven miles away from the intended collection point, forcing other members of the gang to step in and complete the exchange.

This was intercepted by police who were monitoring their activities after they served a custodial sentence in 2007 for selling heroin to undercover police officers.

All of those involved confessed their involvement in the plot which would have seen drugs with a street value of approximately £1 million brought onto the UK streets.

In total, 9kg of heroin worth £939,000 was found to have been imported, with ecstasy tablets worth £105,759 also recovered.

Four individuals involved were sentenced to a combined custodial sentence of thirty one and a half years, with one more awaiting sentence.
