Redflex have had their contract extended by the City of Chicago despite the confirmed corruption surrounding the contract acquisition irregularities by the Red Light Camera company.

It would appear that the contract allows for the continued use of the Red Light Camera enforcement system during a transition period whilst the new vendor gets their systems up and running.

The official Redflex announcement follows:

Extensions to Red Light Photo enforcement contracts with the City of Chicago
Redflex wishes to confirm that it has now received a further 6 month extension to each of the two existing Red Light Photo Enforcement contracts the company has with the City of Chicago.

We are unable to project the value to the business of these extensions as the existing contracts contain Termination for Convenience clauses which allow the City to terminate at their discretion. The City’s expected new vendor implementation and transition plans are also unknown to Redflex at this time.

The extensions will expire on 31 January 2014, and they are on substantially the same terms and conditions as the expiring contracts.
