A quad bike rider has been prosecuted for obstructing a mobile speed camera.

The 27 year old masked rider slammed shut the window of a police camera van and then stood in front of the camera.

Teesside Magistrates' Court fined Daniel Ashford from County Durham �633. He also had to pay �50 in compensation and �148 in court charges. Additionally, his driving licence got six penalty points.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson commented: "Extensive enquiries led by the motorcycle section resulted in the identification of Daniel Ashford, who had tried to conceal his face from the camera. The outcome today sends a strong message to anyone who feels it is acceptable to intimidate and cause distress to camera operators and obstruct them in their duties. This will not be tolerated."

They added: "Let this stand as a warning to anyone else who thinks this type of behaviour is acceptable."
