A huge amount of new speed cameras zones went live across Ireland last week - to be precise, 903 were added to the 419 existing ones making a total of 1,322 nationwide.

A spokesman for the Garda: "The location of all zones are available on the Garda website, along with the collision history and we are urging road users to become familiar with the zones."

He added: "We urge drivers to be fully aware of the posted speed limit and drive within the speed limit for the duration of their journey. Speed kills, help save lives."

Reportedly, the fines only cover 50% of operating costs and it's claimed that speed cameras have prevented 71 deaths on the country's roads since 2011.

Using figures from the study, Life Savers Not Revenue Raisers Safety Cameras in Ireland: A Cost Benefit Analysis, benefits of safety cameras outweigh their costs by more than 5 to 1.

Hi ianrobertson696,

If the camera sites have been reported and verified (or authenticated) then they will be in the current database and if you have the current database in either the CamerAlert (iOS or Android) or Speedtrap Alert (Android only) app then the sites will apear on the app.

If you come across a camera site not in the database and report it and you meet the criteria then you will get 12 months free membership.
