Northamptonshire speed cameras to be turned off
Article by: Darren Griffin Date: 23 Mar 2011
Northamptonshire is the latest county to announce plans to suspend fixed speed camera operations.
Police have announced that the 40 fixed speed cameras operated by the Northamptonshire Casualty Reduction Partnership will be switched off on March 31st and the partnership scrapped.
The announcement follows news that Northamptonshire County Council had withdrawn funding of the cameras last month.
Although the camera internals will be removed, the speed camera housings will remain in place for the forseeable future and Northamptonshire Police will continue to operate a fleet of four mobile speed camera vans.
The fact that the housings will remain in-situ means that they can be re-activated at short notice. Our advice is always to adhere to posted speed limits and to assume that every camera is active.
