North Easts Most Lucrative Speed Camera Revealed
Article by: rob brady Date: 8 Feb 2013
A fixed speed camera on Princess Road in Prudhoe, Northumberland has been named as the most lucrative speed camera in the North East. It earned it's keep by issuing fines of almost a quarter of a million pounds in just one year.
A whopping 49,959 drivers in the Northumbria Police area were caught on camera in 2012 by 27 fixed cameras.
The Princess Road one alone claimed 3,664 motorists and is responsible for fines totalling £220,000 being issued.
It's possible that motorists were left with a false sense of security during 2012 as during the previous two years there were no fixed cameras at all working in the area. They were set live again after an investigation, though it's reported that only one in four cameras in the area are active at any one time.

Interesting comment in the original story - "Aside from the signage, the locations are listed on Safe Speed for Life website and we give information to sat nav companies."
My bold.

So, on average more than 10 drivers a day are caught by that one camera, which is at a speed limit change.
How many accidents at the site? No figures for that.
Despite the speeding cars, there is no one jumping up and down that the speeders are mowing little Jimmy down while he plays footie in the road.
Seems like another cash cow.

It's likely to be the A695, Princess Way rather than Princess Road and if it is, there was a reduction in KSI from 5 to 0 prior to 2005.
