A new speed camera van is set to monitor an 30mph Edinburgh road - a road with a history of vehicles colliding with pedestrians.

The initiative is as a result of a liaison between The East Safety Camera Unit and Edinburgh City Council.

They identified that a mobile camera would benefit safety on Murrayburn Road in the city.

A spokesman for the safety camera unit said: "This route has a history of pedestrian collisions and there have been concerns raised by the community about the failure of drivers to adhere to the 30mph speed limit."

He added: "This is particularly troubling as the road is used by pupils walking to and from local schools. We hope that the presence of the van will deter drivers from travelling above the speed limit."

It is due to go live on Monday next week.
