The UK’s biggest permanent system of average speed limit enforcement has been completed.
The London scheme encompasses more than 120 ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras at 80 sites on several key arterial roads around the capital, including the A2, A40, A406 (North Circular) and A316.
This significant upgrade and expansion of enforcement is a collaboration between TfL (Transport for London) and Siemens under a 10-year maintenance contract.
A TfL spokeswoman commented: "Ensuring all drivers act responsibly is vitally important and we’re using the latest average speed camera technology to do so."
She added:"Speed compliance along a more extensive length of road, rather than just where a camera is located, can make a big difference in cutting the number of tragic unacceptable collisions, saving more lives and improving air quality."
