Vandals disabling speed cameras are not unusual occurrences, in fact we only posted a story yesterday describing how the protective glass of a camera in Toussieu, France was sprayed with pink paint.
This time however, the perpetrator went a bit further - they set a vehicle housing a mobile speed camera ablaze, causing $40,000 worth of damage. The fire totally gutted the Ford Escape van which was operating in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Fort Dodge's local Police Chief said he had never seen anything like this before and guessed it was someone who was annoyed at being ticketed.
He said: "I understand that people might not like the fact that they get a citation from the vehicle. But to go to the point of destroying it just amazed me".
The irony of the situation is that the arsonist may have been caught on camera yet again as police are studying surveillance videos from nearby businesses - this time they are likely to get much more than a ticket.
