Police are set to target speeding motorists along a school route.

Hillside Terrace, part of the A7 road in Selkirk, Scotland will be monitored until the school holidays start on July 2nd.

As a result of pressure from local residents, police will monitor the busy road with mobile speed cameras. They will be in operation for the hour before and the hour after school.

Police Scotland said: "Motorists should keep to the speed limits at all times and this is particularly important near schools. We will monitor offences at this site and if required, adopt an appropriate enforcement program."

A spokesman for the East Safety Camera Unit commented: "The Scottish Borders Road Safety Board has expressed concerns about the risk posed to vulnerable road users on this route to Selkirk High School. The failure of drivers to follow the 30 miles-per-hour speed limit increases the likelihood of a collision."

He added: "Injuries will also be more severe if motorists are travelling above the speed limit."
