A local study by The University of Adelaide has revealed that whilst red-light speed cameras stop one in five accidents at their intersections, collisions at some have actually increased.

The study covered crashes which involved injuries for the five years before cameras were installed and then the following five years.

It appears that at 21 crossroads they have been doing their job, but at another 14 they have failed. The researchers report that overall there was a total reduction in crashes involving an injury from 819 in the first 5 year period, down to 712 after.

The South Australia State Government recently announced that another ten cameras would be deployed throughout the state.
