A hapless driver was caught speeding five times by the same average speed cameras.

He managed to rack up 15 points on his licence on five sperate days over a two week period between September and October last year - the cameras were first activated in September.

Despite the points, 43 year old Leicestershire man Gregory Hollyoake walked out of the court without a ban.

Hollyoake said that the tickets were sent to his ex-partner’s house, so he never saw them.

He commented: "I finally found out about all five of the letters. I know it's no excuse for speeding but I didn't know the cameras were there. I think they're hidden away on the top of lampposts.

He added: "I know they are there now. I think I might swap to using a pushbike for future trips."

One of the prosecuting Magistrates said: "We have found you would suffer exceptional hardship if you lost your licence due to you having to find another job, your mental health, the effect it would have on your partner’s son and in you taking your mother to hospital."

Hollyoake was fined £264 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Any excuse to avoid the lawful ban.

Whether he didn't them or not, if he'd hit a pedestrian at whatever speed he was doing .....

A stiffer sentence including a ban would send out a message to others reading about it, not giving them a ploy to avoid a ban.

Is "I didn't know they were there" a valid excuse for speeding then?

He says he might use a push bike for future trips. Hint, he could just stay under the speed limit Wink

If losing your licence is going to cause hardship then don't speed
