Lorry Ban at Beauty Spot Blamed on SatNavs

It is becoming increasingly common for councils to erect signs banning HGV's from taking unsuitable routes through their areas.
The latest instance sees lorry drivers being banned from using the narrow lanes of a Yorkshire beauty spot.
Truckers often get stuck in Mayfield Valley, Sheffield area due to sharp bends and lack of passing places.
A campaign to stop HGVs using these local shortcuts started when an increase in satnav use led to more lorries being directed through unsuitable country roads.
Joan Newton of the local Women’s Institute spearheaded the campaign. She commented: "We are trying to prevent a fatal accident from happening. There is nowhere to escape for children and cyclists. It is very dangerous."

Again, is it the SatNav (Tools) to blame, or the Users.
Every SatNav I've used has preferences for type of roads and type of route, but of course if for example 'Quickest' route is always used without 'Road Type' settings you'll get these problems.
Putting up signs will of course, be the most inefficient and unlikely to work, solution to the problem. Treat the 'Root' cause, not the outcome.

For some reason coucild think these signs help but in fact if a business orders 30 tonnes off goods then it has to go down that lane. Another factor they don't think of is most drivers from eastern Europe are used to these type of roads so it's nothing strange to them
currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

Actually that sort of sign is the one thing not tried on a notorious slip road on the A3T. It seems that on average twice a year somebody drives down it the wrong way to then go the wrong way up the south bound carriageway. Last time a police car felt the solution, for the first time, was to ram the car head on!
The county council's solution is a plethora of No Entry signs and arrows on the slip road lanes. That now causes people coming off the A3 to use both lanes to go straight on at the small roundabout.
Other residential roads around this have signs "No Access to A3", but not the slip road.
