Hundreds of speeding drivers a day are ignoring the new Port Talbot average speed cameras on the M4.

The cameras were installed along a two mile stretch but are only being tested at the moment. Since their installation in October, they have not been fully operative - only after 19th January will they begin their task of prosecuting speeders.

Between the 5th and 18th of January, motorists breaking the speed limit will receive a warning letter.

A spokeswoman for the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership GoSafe said "This will give the general public time to adjust their speeds and change their driving behaviour"

The cameras currently witness up to 700 drivers per day breaking the speed limit - 400 per day was the lowest figure reported.
