Garmin are Shutting Down Navigon Apps Goodbye Navigon
Article by: maft Date: 19 Apr 2018
Navigon have announced that their navigation apps will be removed for Android and iOS app stores from 14th May after a strategic change from their owners at Garmin. Garmin purchased Navigon back in 2011 and have, during those years, kept them as two separate brands before ceasing releasing Navigon-branded hardware a few years ago.
Any purchased apps will continue working for at least two years but any subscriptions will stop working once they expire. In-app purchases and subscriptions will stop being available after 14th May.
I, personally, have enjoyed Navigon hardware and apps over the years and have fond memories of them as a company - I remember sitting through a press release at CeBit in German with Mike B because they decided at the last minute to change it from the scheduled English...
Bit of a sad day as I've used Navigon hardware since 2005 when I bought my motorhome.
Didn't realise thats's what it was at the time as I bought a badged version from Aldi!
When I decided that I needed new maps (after about 3 years) I was hooked and then found out what it was and bought a 'proper' Navigon PND.

An even bigger shame that Garmin have not transferred licensing of the Navigon app product across to their Street Pilot app... But that would need them to care about their customers and not want to fleece them for another app purchase.
I'm even more annoyed having just purchased the Navigon USA East Coast app, 3 weeks of ownership and the plug has essentially pulled before I've had chance to even use it!
