GPS Systems To Protect Britains Football Players
Article by: rob brady Date: 8 Jun 2012
Amidst a recent spate of injuries, a leading sports scientist has offered an innovative solution to the current injury crisis faced by British football players, suggesting GPS technology should be used in games and matches.
According to Dr. Craig Duncan, a large number of sports injuries could be prevented if players were monitored by GPS devices.
These would be used to monitor how intensively players were performing during matches, allowing coaches to rest and substitute members of the team at opportune times.
Duncan, who is the Head of Human Performance for Sydney FC, boasted of the positive results which GPS monitoring could have in the sports world - using injury figures from his own club as evidence.
He estimated that injury rates for Sydney FC had been reduced by approximately 60 per cent over the past year, with careful monitoring and the use of GPS named as major contributors.
However, whether Duncan's suggestion will actually be adopted by British football remains uncertain as GPS systems are currently banned from matches by FIFA but commonly used within club training sessions.

What, what.......you mean it measures how far they've run? In my day you used to take care of that by training hard. Suppose that is a bit much for today's show ponies?
