France and Spain have formed a cross-border reciprocal agreement on speed camera penalties.

Drivers will be fined by either of the two countries whether it's a Spanish driver that has been caught speeding in France or a French driver caught in Spain.

It has been reported that during the summer holiday season, about half of speeding drivers are from outside France. France already has similar agreements in place with Belgium, Switzerland, Luxemburg and Germany.

450,000 Spanish-registered cars were caught by speed cameras in 2012 in France while 130,000 French cars were caught in Spain.

French Senator, Odette Herviaux commented, "We don't have the same driving rules across Europe and certain motorists are allowed to drive faster in their own country, like on German motorways, but European drivers must respect the rules of the road for the country they are driving in."
