According to news source Les Echos, fines from speed cameras in France are expected to net €1bn in 2019 - a rise of 12%. And the extra fees for unpaid fines are likely to bring the figure closer to €1.23 billion.

The expected rise is due to an 80 kph speed limit being introduced on secondary French roads in July this year. Authorities expect the amount of penalties to be handed out on these particular roads to double.

It has also been reported that over a hundred new routes will have deliberately-vague speed camera signage, and, by end of next year, there will be 4,700 speed cameras across the country.

They prey on foreign drivers.

I've got no intention of ever going there.

I'm sure I read somewhere that some of these new zones still have the old signage in place with the previous speed limit. Apparently not knowing that the speed limit is posted incorrectly is no excuse!

Some districts apparently refused to pay for the new signs, but having just spent a week in France all the roads I used were correctly signed and my DS50 reported all but one correctly.

Where there's a will ... there's a way.

If that’s the case, then I’m surprised that the French drivers don’t blockade the roads and burn things in protest! Wink

Yes, those that exceed the speed limit.

The Gendarmarie's two key periods are around the Le Mans 24 when they catch the British belting it down the autoroute and the first week of the summer holidays when they catch the Parisians doing the same.
