Hot on the heels of Garmin's demonstration of their K2 Infotainment at CES comes the announcement that Daimler AG has chosen Garmin as the global navigation provider for Mercedes-Benz.

Daimler will integrate Garmin navigation into Mercedes-Benz in-dash infotainment systems. Navigation functions will be controlled via the system's rotary controller with turn instructions and other information available via the secondary instrument panel display.

This deal is a major win for Garmin. Vehicle manufacturers are seen as the next major market for companies such as Garmin and TomTom and both have been investing heavily in courting new business in this market.

I have Garmin built in to the Kenwood DNX520VBT unit in a 2011 Skoda Yeti. I chose a unit with Garmin because people I trust swear by them. All I do is swear at it. It has some useful features but it's nowhere near as good as even the dumbed down TomTom 720 I use in my Land Rover.
