Australian Walker Missing For Two Days Due To GPS Blunder

A walker who became lost in Australia after following incorrect directions from his GPS device has been found after two days of searching.
The confusion arose when the middle-aged gentleman inputted the wrong co-ordinates into his navigational device, causing him to become lost in the state of Victoria.
The man’s absence was noted when he failed to liaise with a friend near the summit of Mt Donna Buang on Friday evening. Once the authorities had been informed, a search operation was launched and the man was found by Police, having strayed 2km from his intended destination.
According to a statement from one of the police officers involved, he was found not to have a map.
His failure to input the correct co-ordinates led him to become stranded within the Australian landscape as he was forced to “bush-bash until he could find something he could use as a mark.”

There are places in Australia, very close to civilisation, where you can become totally and utterly lost within minutes. The bush is unforgiving.....

Similar story recently on the one show. Bloke got lost when his smart phone battery failed. As this was his only form of navigation he was unable to find his way back and as the weather closed in and darkness fell he managed to completely stray from the path. Fortunately he was found very quickly.
Authorities said that if you are going to venture out into the country side with smartphone or gps then at least take a backup map and compass!

I know I'm a bit pedantic, but the directions from the GPS were correct. It's just a bit unfortunate that the destination entered into the GPS device wasn't what the walker had intended to put in.

Pedantic? Yes. But also true.
The device performed exactly as it was requested. Sadly no one has yet invented a device that can function like a human and say "actually, those coordinates are different to where your friend is going - do you want me to correct it for you?"
