Speed cameras on the A10 have been approved to continue following a six-month pilot starting last June.

The pilot was given a temporary extension before Christmas, but now The Strategic Road Safety Partnership has approved funding until 2022. The cameras monitor a kilometre stretch of road in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.

During the pilot, almost 150 speeding offences were recorded - these included eighteen motorists driving at over 100mph and one averaging 131mph.

The Local Chief Inspector commented: "Certainly I am really grateful for the funding, it allows us to go on monitoring speeding on the road. They've clearly had an excellent effect and reduced accidents, dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour."

He added: "The public have been almost exclusively positive about the cameras, which is great to see."
