A year after speed cameras were switched off in the area due to lack of funding, five new cameras have been activated in the Black Country.

The new units are positioned in Quarry Bank, Halesowen, Gornal Wood and Stourbridge.

A Dudley Council spokesman commented, "The units cost around £3,000 each to install and maintain set against 2014 Department for Transport figures which show the average cost of a serious accident is more than £210,000."

West Midlands Police will deal with enforcement and continue to run four mobile speed cameras in the area.

Birmingham and Solihull councils are also looking to put in place a trial for 12 fixed cameras.

Fancy that. I don't suppose anybody can tell them what speed cameras do, or what they achieve. Rolling Eyes

Well Brum City Council does have to find over a £1bn to pay for all the legal actions against it.

So they only need to cop every motorist in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool & most of the UK to make up the shortfall.

Be alert.. This country needs more lerts.

So maybe the trial is to find the best places to position them to cop the most motorists and make the most money?

Possibly, but isn't that the general MO of all speed cameras, to make money in the most efficient and effective manner without any or minimal human intervention.

Unfortunately the spokesman doesn't seem to know how to do a simple Cost Benefit Analysis using capital expenditure and annual revenue costs and frequency of undesirable events.
