Roads in the Central London may soon all be restricted to a 20mph speed limit.
The London Mayor, Sadiq Khan has launched a consultation for the Transport for London (TfL) initiative and, if successful, speed cameras could be deployed by May 2020.
Out of the 155,729 speeding drivers that were caught in London in 2017/2018, 42,771 were recorded on roads that already have the 20mph limit. Over 4,000 people are killed or seriously injured on the capital’s roads every year.
Mr. Khan commented: "The proposed 20mph speed limit on TfL roads within the Congestion Charge Zone and at Aldgate Gyratory will protect people walking and cycling and other road users in the busiest part of the capital."
The consultation will be in place until the 10th of July.
