£125,000 Worth of Free Memberships Awarded in 6 Months

Article by: robert
Date: 14 Dec 2009

pocketgpsworld.comIn the last six months, PocketGPSWorld has awarded 316 camera spotters free life membership and free lifetime downloads of our speed camera database.

Assuming just 20 years as an estimated lifetime membership, obviously some will be a lot less and others will be a lot more, this means that we have given away memberships worth over £125,000. This brings the total now awarded to a value of almost £1.5 million!

Our continued thanks goes to those who support the site and continue to report camera changes and new locations, but we still need more. Join the 1000's who are already PocketGPSWorld Lifetime Members, read how you can become a Lifetimer here.

Being 67 I know what you're getting at - would my surviving spouse get a carry-over? Razz

Very Happy I think you know what the answer will be.

I'm in the same boat, looking to live at least the 20, but I won't be driving that long.

Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100.

Quote from Theresa Villiers in a speech to the Conservative party convention:
“It’s time to put a stop to Labour’s cash cow camera culture - Ladies and gentlemen, a Conservative government would not fund any new fixed speed cameras because they are not the best way to make our roads safer.”

If this does happen then it will be more difficult to get free membership and perhaps some existing subscribers may take the view that the camera database will not get out of date so much and will not continue to buy a subscription. There will be no more new fixed cameras - just leaving new mobile sites and temp specs.
Would this cause a funding problem for PGPS World or is the income from ads on the site the major source of income? It would be rather ironic if the lack of new cameras that many of us hate so much was the cause of the demise of this site.

We make very little from advertising, barely enough to cover hosting costs. However, whilst fixed cameras may stop proliferating (and I even doubt that), Mobiles will continue to be used and our database will continue to be a useful service for a long time to come.

I doubt it as well - we've all heard election 'promises'!
"Due to a popular request for more cameras we have decided to renege on our earlier promise......blah,blah"
(No offence meant to die-hard Tory voters of course Smile )
