I have a Driveluxe 50 and my PGPS cameras are talking to me fine. I did turn off the already installed Garmin ones though......

I think it was established that the previous model i.e. 50, will work, the 51 won't.

I don't know if this is coincidental or an indication that my unit is faulty.
What I have noticed is the alerts such as school, bend, animal crossing?? etc. are not ticked in settings but show up at the top of the display with accompanying 'bong'.

This should not be happening, surely? I am going to ring Garmin on Monday to see what they suggest. I am thinking I should go back to my trusty Nuvi 775t.

Have you done a full shut down since making the changes, or simply put your drive to sleep? You may need to power down completely.

Hmmm ... seems wrong, perhaps you do have a faulty unit, may also explain the speed cam POI issues. Having played briefly with the DriveSmart 50 I got on Saturday unticking those options doesn't result in getting an audible alert. Note you will still get a visual alert, at least you do on the Drive 50 series.

It does seem odd that proximity reporting is still mentioned in the manual.

I suppose we do need more than one report/unit to develop a pattern.

This makes me think it should work as before. Same wording as last years 50 range units:

I can see proximity alerts on my DriveLuxe 51 but I haven't attempted to use POIloader to install the PGPSW speed cams as I have them on my DriveLuxe 50 which I am running alongside the new unit. I'll have a go at loading these in the new model next week but the update I did on the DriveLuxe 50 this weekend worked perfectly (as always).

Given the two models are near identical in look, feel and functionality I'd be surprised if Garmin has removed the ability to add in speed cams or other POIs - especially with the negativity towards Tom Tom when they pulled a similar stunt.

The @ sign and various words such as Gatso, SPECS etc. according to the Garmin link above.

If they have changed it, a bit of experimentation as to whether its the @ sign or the name of the file/POI will determine how it now works (or doesn't).

The 'Level Crossing' file - if it's the same one as I have - is a "TourGuide". (Circular Proximity Alert - no speed check, and no consideration if it is actually on your route or not).

The magic "@" symbols and 'special' POI file names, are all POILoader concepts - once the file becomes a .GPI, these are translated to 'fields' within it.

It might be time to put a bit more effort into deciphering Garmin's own SafetyCamera .GPI structure...
...they have always used different .GPI files to the ones POILoader was capable of making (Directional Alerts being one obvious difference).

Deciphering GPI is a task well beyond my skills.

First thing is to find out whether third party cameras have been scuppered.

I agree, will be good to hear what you find when you try it Smile

ping sussamb

Just got of the phone to Garmin.

He confirmed yet again that third party cameras will NOT be supported and therefore will not work.

I don't know where that leaves us folks that have been with pocketgpsworld for donkeys.
