For some reason it's stopped loading alerts, the only thing that has changed is a map upgrade, now when I try to load the speed camera database I get the following messages,
congratulations, you have successfully installed 16158 custom poi's on your device.
and then in the window below I get 5 lines like,
unable to convert pocketgps_uk_gatso.wav to the proper format therefore the audio file was not transferred.
and this results in no files being transferred, the only alerts I get are a few gatso's which I think came with the Garmin.
Can anyone please suggest a solution?
Thanks
John. |

Check sox.exe hasn't been deleted. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Yep, that's a missing sox. _________________ DashCam:

Thanks for your replies but I think it must be something else, the sox.exe is there and as a check I found the folder I successfully loaded in last June and used for a month, this has got all the files, .bmp .csv .wav and sox, I've just loaded this into the Garmin and get the same error messages.
Another check I did is that I loaded with mp3 files, I now get the chimes and the icons but no voice, with the .wav files I get nothing, no chimes, voice or icons. |

Is sox.exe in the same folder as poiloader.exe (and a bunch of .DLLs)? This is typically C:\Program Files(x86)\Garmin\POILoader(putting it in the wrong folder is the most common mistake). It sounds like, from your post, that you have it in the same folder as the .csv etc. files. Unless you put all the stuff in the same folder, it's in the wrong place.
The *.mp3 files will not work unless your device has an mp3 player.

I've reloaded the POIs as you've suggested and will give it a try tomorrow morning.
Thanks |

Well did you have sox.exe in the right place?
Can you not simulate a route past a camera to save going out? |

The sox.exe wasn't with the POI loader as you suggested, but it is now ( I hope ) and I don't know how to simulate a route. |

Not having much success tonight, this is my third attempt to post this reply, I started to run a simulated route but at the speed it was going it would have taken too long as the nearest speed camera is a few miles away, I'll take it out for a run tomorrow. |

You don't have to plot a route from you're current location. You can plot a route from anywhere to anywhere using the trip planner feature.
Use the western section of the M25, that should keep it busy. _________________ DashCam:

M25, I hadn't thought of doing it that way, anyway I've been out and it's the same, chimes only no voices, now I'm no expert at this as you will probably have realised but I've tried numerous ways of loading without success, and before my map upgrade a few weeks ago I had installed 8 - 9 monthly speed cam updates with voice alerts in the last year with no problems which makes me think it must be something to do with that.
Perhaps I should ring Garmin and ask them? Or just stick with the chimes only, I must say I was getting increasingly annoyed with voice alerts, especially when going through 'average speed camera zones' where it's shouting at you every few seconds for mile after mile and you're only doing 40 in a 50 limit.
Thanks for your help.

You would not have got voice alerts if it wasn't. As you just found that sox.exe was not (during your latest attempts) in the POI Loader folder, I think that you have made some other changes that you are possibly not aware of as well as removing sox.exe from the POI Loader folder.
Have you, either deliberately or inadvertently changed the folder structure on your PC that could cause this. For instance, have you re-installed POI Loader?
If you do everything right, it will work.
WRT specs. If the voice alerts annoy you, you could edit the specs .wav files and replace the current audio with, say, just a ding.
I don't think that the latest map update will have broken it, but it may have screwed up the correct folder structure, but I think this is unlikely.

I've never bothered with voice alerts. Chime and the banner at top of screen is enough for me. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
