Apologies if this is not the correct forum but cannot see a forum for car questions.
I have a Honda CR-V with a lifetime Garmin GPS built in. Is there any way one can put camera database onto it please?
Thanks |

No
The Honda Connect system is locked down. As you probably know the only downloadable app so far is the aha audio app.
Why Honda and Garmin decided to limit this new unit to TMC RDS instead of Garmins digital traffic is also a mystery. Whether it's due to this new '2015' Android headunit still being Ice Cream Sandwich, 3 versions behind phones, is an unknown. _________________ Satnav:

I guess I will have to keep the other portable Garmin on the side / floor to give me the camera warnings. |

I'm running a Garmin 2599 for the cameras and digital traffic in addition to my Honda Alpine unit. _________________ Satnav:

I am running the same 2599 - I guess I have to put up with both running at the same time. I thought technology progresses onwards not backwards!! |

I was going to change my Civic next March but given the adverse reports I keep reading about the Honda Connect headunit I'm hanging on = MOT next March.
The latest I've seen is someone who recently updated the maps and has lost text to speech. Just one thing after another so far:
Rear Camera reversing gridlines disappear
Audio not muted when navigation instructions issued
Navigation instructions only issued through drivers door speaker
No link, like now, to eye level iMid so it's eyes off the road to see next navigation point info _________________ Satnav:

The number of owners with this new Honda Connect unit that now has a Garmin system instead of Alpine are small. So far not much info is coming out.
It does seem that it is locked down to the single speaker though. The end result is that it's difficult to hear the instructions when the other 5 speakers are still at normal volume.
So much for progress _________________ Satnav:

Does it not reduce the volume from the others then?
I wonder if the handsfree phone does the same? |

I'm popping up on this thread as my comment is related in a roundabout way. Please tell me if I need to post this on the relevant TT forum.
I am taking delivery of a new Mazda 6 next Tuesday which has an integrated TT satnav system. Does anyone know if POI's and safety cam alerts are downloadable pls? I don't know how to find out the satnav spec |

It could be a Tomtom.

That's what he said it would be
I just wondered why he posted in a Garmin thread and a TomTom thread. |

In answer to M8TJT:Just check my post here where I concede that I may well be on the wrong thread and that I would probably have to post it on the relevant TT forum because it wasn't 'strictly speaking' on the correct group.
Some five minutes after my post on this thread, I happened to spot a PM from a contributor on the other thread informing me that he may have a solution for me. I therefore responded there. |
